how long does it take a bass to bite again?

Featured Replies

When i release a bass after hooking it, how long does it take it to recover and bite again?  i think its different for largemouth and smallmouths... i heard smallmouths might bite again after a day.. but i dont know for certain

Some never recover, dying that hour or maybe a week later. In the fall when bass are in their feeding frenzy it's not uncommon to catch the same bass right away. If you boat a bass quickly and get it back in the water within a minute of first handling it should normally have enough spark in it to resume feeding right away. Immature bass are much more likely to be fooled again the same hour, while a mature bass adds another notch to its experience belt and might not fall for another artificial bait ever again.

ive caught the same largemouth on back to back casts.  i caught him and threw him back and my son starts crying that he didnt get to "pet" him.  i throw back and am pleased to catch another one right away, except its the same fish (distinctive markings).  like everything else i guess it depends is the answer.

During the spawn, this is common.

We have had many occasions where we release the fish back to the nest, dropi n the nest again and he/she will smack the same bait, immediately after being caught on it.  I think they just like my cologne.

I 've caught the same fish from the same spot 4 times in the same week and it was not the spawn, so we can say to a certain point that some fish are big, strong and mean enough to own a priviledged place in a lake, btw, I 've caught that same fish several times, I know it 's the same fish because it has a very distinctive mouth, it 's crooked on one side.
