bottom foliage!!

Featured Replies

Hello all, I need some help. I was challenged to fish any plastics and choose to fish a Texas rig (witch I finished) the only problem that I am having is that every time I fish I end up getting nothing but a bunch of foliage from the bottom of the lake. I know that I can't totally get rid of this but how do I stop fishing nothing but thatBesides going to another lake. Thanks for the help!

is it that nasty green gooey algae of like plants?

Yes!! I hate it. Its all over the place!!!

i know dude its nasty too lmao it gets bubbles in it and stuff. ewww my question is will a bass hit a worm or bait....that has a little of this stuff on it? or does it have to be totally clean?

Would you eat a steak if it had spinach all over it? I kid I kid. In all seriousness I have no clue but I would assume you dont want there to be more algae on it than soft plastic  ::)

right right. but i see this all the time on t.v and i always thought that you had to keep the bait clean 100% of the time....but if you are fishing weeds is that realistic?

Fish a Texas Rig with a lighter weight and swim it over the slime or a splitshot rig with a very light weight and a straight tailed worm. I fish a splitshot rig with a 1/32 oz weight down to ten feet in weeds and slime rigged with a trickworm. Its just enough weight to get it down without it hanging up in the weeds and slime. I also won tournament one time fishing with a guy wacky rigging a trickworm with an open hook in algae. The fish still took the worms even though it was covered in the stuff.

senkos are hard to beat in conditions like that. Pretty much any weightless plastic. In my pond, where that stuff is abundant, even 1/16 oz weights will gather snot on it.

I totally agree with rocknfish at my home town lakes there is this problem also, senko weightless you cant go wrong ;)

Use a salt impregnated (floating) plastic worm and carolina rig it.  Try to figure out how tall the weeds are on the bottom and make your leader about a foot longer than that.  As you drag the weight through the weeds, the worm will float and wiggle just above the weeds.  Don't forget to make your worm weedless ;)
