Stocked pond seems hard to fish now???

Featured Replies

The pond I go to during the weekdays when I can't get out on the lake is getting much harder to pull out a fish. I used to pull out at least a dozen everytime I went and a couple good ones and I know the owner stocks it regulary each year. I know the fish were spawning about a month ago and I can still see some shallow everynow and then but I just cant find where they went to in the middle. The pond is maybe an acre or two at best and can be covered very easily. it has lots of rocks and is about eight feet deep at the deepest parts. What am I doing wrong to all of a sudden only get one or two fish a week from there? Or is it just the fish being in their lazy summer mood?

Every pond I have fished this year in Virgina and Pennsylvania produced positive results.

I have found that the weather plays a major role with pond fishing.  It seems the weather is a greater factor in ponds than on rivers and lakes.

I have been skunked a few times on ponds but I fished them right after a cold front moved through and I did not expect to do well.

I have been successful throwing Chatterbaits, a Gitzit, Roostertails, buzzbaits, Gulp! worms and Zoom junebug and redbug finess worms, both weighted and without any weights.  The Senko bites have been productive in the ponds.

So please double check the weather conditions and fish ponds early in the AM, like around 5:45 AM and in the evening after 7 PM.  These times have proven to be very productive.

Good luck.

Sam is right about the weather.  It is so hot and dry down here in Texas.  The fishing is getting pretty tough.  I just recently learned about c-rig on this forum and have been using it with great success.  The bass seem to be laying on the bottom where it is cool.

I gotta try that C-Rig this year.

I gotta try that C-Rig this year.

I didn't think that the c-rig was something that was for me untill I just decided to give it a try.  I couldn't believe that I didn't use it in my early years of fishing.  LOL  Live and learn

Maybe that is the major problem because we have been having some pretty bad weather up here in the north and recently had a couple bad storms. I did go down yesterday and used a chatterbait and actually had decent success so I think it might be the weather.
