I was wondering if anyone out there has ever heard of or tried to use a slug a live bait. I am going to try it out by texas rigging one and using it like a senko or something along those lines. I dont know how i am going to get all the slime off my hands. If  I have any success i will be sure to let you guys know.

Slugs are one of my all time favorite baits for stream trout. They kill 'em.

IT WILL PROBABLY WORK. WALLEYE FISHERMEN USE LEECHES ALL THE TIME WITH GREAT SUCCESS.

I've always thought about using a slug as they're all over my porch at night, but I just can't bring myself to use those slimey things.  On a similar note, I haven't found a plastic slug that matches the real slugs I have here.  They are a dark greenish-brown with lots of leopard spots on their back.  Anyone know where to get 'em like that?

I'm with you Panamoka. I think they are no doubt an excellent bait. I just can't bring myself to fish with something that resembles a sinus infection.

I don't know where to get them like that but I'm confident that you don't need them to succeed. Soft jerkbaits, such as Slug-Gos, Slimy Slugs, Flukes and Assassins are excellent producers in a wide variety of colors, most of which don't resemble slugs.

all i know is that the slugs we have around here have the WORST slime. If you get it on your hands it wont come off for a week, no matter how many times you wash them.

I think they would make great bobber or drop shotting bait. Just wear gloves.

I'll take your word for it. I've never experienced the pleasure of handling slugs (except with a piece of toweling between my hand and the animal) and I'm not actively looking to do it for the first time.  ;D

However, are they really slimier than pike and pickerel? How about eels (which I've also never handled)?

Why would you want to do that? Just use a sluggo or a fluke. Slugs are for the garden my friend.
