Every year, I go thru this.  Frankly, I carry more tackle in the boat than the law allows and most of it I don't even use.  I toss the same lures most of the time because, frankly, they catch fish.  I have cb's and soft plastics in my storage that haven't even been wet except to check their action in the water.  Sooooooo....

Once again I will go out to the boat, pull all my tackle out and start going thru it in hopes of being able to cut WAY back on what I'm toting around.  The downside to all of this is that I'll pull something, then turn around and decide I MIGHT want to use it at some point and put it back in.  I think the best thing to do is yank what I don't use, hurry up and sell it in one big "grab bag", then run out and buy more so I can do it all over again.........

I am thinking of putting him on a chain, for he has even struck my gf! Bum bum! I thought I would be jealous of another man but I am OK with this one!  ;D

The Baitmonkey constantly screams at me to bolster my supply of this and my supply of that. Trust me...if I were a richer man...I would do it in a second.

It's funny how the same act can have two enitrely different affects on people.

I have so many lures, I can't possibly take all of them with me.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I have decide which I THINK will work best.

Now for my home lake, which is where I do 90% of my fishing, it's easy.  I have my standard tackle box, bag.  and I can just grab them and go.  I'll change a few lures out from time to time, but it's kinda easy.

Now, when I'm going to different water is where the fun begins.  I'll be fishing on someone elses' boat, so common courtesy requires me to limit how much I bring, and I only know generalities about the water.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,  I'll spend a few hours a day for several days before the trip sorting through the tackle and making all these agonizing decisions about what to take and what to leave behind.

As arduous as this process is, I LOVE IT>    I truly do.

It's part of the total experience.

I know exactly what you mean. I have 4 seperate tackle boxes, and I find myself going through them pulling aside what I know is worth carrying. I have a small tackle box, that fits in my cargo pocket that I carry around most of the time (I'm a bank fisherman most days.) I just put what I think I'll use, usually only about 10 lures (mostly spinnerbaits) in this small tacklebox, and leave the rest at home. I honestly can say that I haven't made a lure purchase in probably 2 months. Pretty proud of myself actually. Just shows how many lures you really need to have.

You can sell what you don't use or keep it.  But don't feel bad for taking a ton of tackle that you wouldn't use.  Whatever you leave at home you will be kicking yourself for doing so, but taking it with you gives you no excuse.  I recently went to Lake Table Rock, me and my partner filled every compartment in the boat with 20 rods and all our tackle, we used about 5 different baits.  But would never have left anything at home.

Although I do buy old soft plastics so if you want to get rid of them and are close by give me a call.
