split rings & trebles ?

Featured Replies

When you change out trebles on old baits that just have the small screw in eye bolts, should you unscrew and attach the new treble and screw back in with some glue, or cut off old treble hook add a split ring and install new hooks?

Hope that makes sense, I need to replace some hooks on old lures. Thanks.

I always add split rings to baits that do not include them because I think it makes it harder for a fish to get the leverage needed to throw the lure. If I were you I would cut the hooks off and add a split ring to the eyelet. If it is too hard to work with, you can unscrew the eyelet and add the split ring and the hook and then screw it back in. The glue is an alright idea and shouldn't hurt anything.

I have added split rings to the Jitterbugs and also the Zara Spooks and I know some of those hook hangers are hard to deal with.

Good luck.
