How long can a bass go without eating? Anybody know?

I dont really know! When bass have lockjaw they can go without food for quite a while!

It's been about ten days around here. They off course still will eat the odd prey but once in a while.

In the mouth of this creek i saw dozens of bass and i tried everything but they would not hit anything  i threw at them. (that white thing is a big koi carp around 15lbs.)

Quite awhile i would say knowing how lazy bass can be. The less the move the less they have to eat.

According to what I've ever read and observed (alot of this comes from the "Bigmouth" video) is that spawning bass may go for three to four weeks without feeding. They will tank up on forage pre-spawn and not eat until up to two to three weeks after spawning. Supposedly they will go deep and lie still after being on the nest. When they return to the shallows (post-spawn) they then go on a feeding binge again. I would assume this is true as this is why we are so successful in catching lots of bass during these times. I would assume (although not a good practice) that the bass can go these long periods at other times of the year (like winter) as long as they are inactive (like Other said). Their metabolism goes way down when they don't move. My answer to your question would be up to one month. Again, I'm no expert (but I did stay at a Holiday Express last night) ;D . . . sorry, couldn't resist.

My god thats a lot of bass in that shallow little area! Get me a rod, reel, and spinnerbait it looks like heaven!

They will not even take spinnerbaits, dont ask me why?

As cold blooded creatures thier metablolism is connected to the water temp.

when the ice is thick and the "warm" water is in the high 30's, I'll bet the bass can go quite awhile without eating.

try dead sticking a senko worm or a sinking crankbait on a cork. twitch it every 10 or 15 min

Just give me a net  ;D The bass I have at my house went for 10 days without eating cause I was poor. Ive also had time like that when there were good sized bass just sitting there. I dropped a hook with a worm on it and poked it in the face with nothing happening.

I'd have to be in a coma to fish that slow  ;)

Here is what Ken Cook said at the January 10, 2004 Bassmaster University in Richmond, Virginia regardng your query.

Speed of Metabolism in Largemouth Bass Based on Water Temperature

WATER TEMPERATURE          TIME TO DIGEST MINNOW

40 Degrees                                       8 Days

50 Degrees                                       7 Days

60 Degrees                                       2.5 Days

70 Degrees                                       24 Hours

80 Degrees                                       18 Hours

80 Plus Degrees                                18 Hours

Between 73 and 75 degrees the bass' metabolism is the most efficient.

Water temperature is critical to fishing plans since you will have better success when the water temperature reaches 60 degrees and higher.

Personally, I would think that it would take a longer time to digest a bream or bluegill or shad.

I hope this helps.
