C.A.S.T. For Kids fund raising success!!

Featured Replies

I would like to thank everyone so much again for participating in my C.A.S.T. for Kids Ice out Tournament. Sunday, April 1, 2007  It was an amazing day for me.

For many, the day started off at around 4:30 am.  Dunkin Donuts of East Greenwich was kind enough to donate a huge urn of coffee and donuts.  The frigid morning was a great wake up call I must say. By 7am there were 34 bass boats in the waters of Roger Williams Park, with 67 anglers ready to start off the day.

With a quick briefing on the water it was official at 7:02 am. The blastoff had almost every boat full throttle on their trolling motors.  At noon time Domino's was lunch. A mini -picnic of pizza and soda was set up at the Temple. Some stayed out on the water to continue to fish, others went in for a few minutes to take a quick breather. At 2:30 boats started to head back to the ramp.  A bit after 3:00 the weigh-in began. There was only 1 limit and some bags of 1-4 fish but not too many anglers ended up with fish.

First Place paid $784.00 to Joel St.Germain & Delainey Broggi

Second Place $522.00 to Carl Andrade & Frankie Goss

Third place $262.00 to Tony Vachelli & Al Vincenzo

Lunker $235.00  to Joel St.Germain

This was my first fund raising event and only the beginning of a larger goal that I have. I am working towards trying to get the Special Olympics to recognize bass fishing, or any type of fishing for their program.  As you can see, I was part of the winning team. From my winnings I will be donating $150 back to C.A.S.T. for Kids.  The remainder of the money will be used to help fund future events in addition to working towards my goal of involvement with Special Olympics.

To  Joel St.Germain, my fishing partner, Thank you for a great time on the water and true fishing experience.  For all your help before, during and after the tournament.  I'm so glad all those tips I gave you paid off. ;-)

This was such a rewarding project for me to do. I would like to thank all of the boaters, anglers, and volunteers that helped me along the way.  There are just two many of you to mention.    Without everyone's support I would have never been able to do this, and it would not have been the huge success that it was. Please know how very much I appreciate everyone's contribution.

In total, $1000.00 was raised and will to C.A.S.T. for Kids RI Foundation, I will continue to work with Russ Thetonia the C.A.S.T. director in RI and we will be shopping for life jackets for all the kids to wear and keep.

Thanks again and please remember that this was part one of CAST for Kids 2007 part two will be the actual event on August 25, 2007 back at Roger Williams Park.  They will need 20+ boats to help take all the kids and families out fishing.

Please contact Russ Thetonia  jrussellthetonia@castforkids.org  or my dad Mike Broggi Sr mbroggi1@cox.net  for more details.

Man, what a GREAT day!!

The weather turned out to be beautiful.  A sunny, sunny day when earlier in the week they were calling for a cold drizzle.

Because of this event, every child that attends a RI CAST event will recieve a life jacket to keep.  This is a main drive of ours right now, to give every child a pfd.  We feel it is our duty if we are going to introduce these kids to a shoreline activity.  This is something CAST as a national org is also trying to secure at the moment.  For now though, thanks to everyone involved,...RI is covered ;)

I'd like to thank all the folks that stepped up to the plate and took a swing for CAST For Kids.  The more I work with these folks, the better idea I have of what a great group of anglers we have here in RI.  A thank you is in order for our board members that came out also.  Matt 5.0 & friend, NATHAN JAMES (and his 3 friends), ALPSTER,bass hole, cigarlover and friend,..thank you guys for participating and to a few of you who traveled from out of state just to support us, you guys are awesome and THANK YOU!!!

On behalf of the kids and everyone here at CAST, we can't thank Mike and his daughter Delainey enough.  This is a fishy, fishy family.  The only thing they do better than fishing is caring.  This day would not have happened if Delainey hadn't stepped up.  This is something she surely learned from her dad.

Thanks to Scott & Shannon Horridge for pulling Pizza delivery duty.  These guys never let me down.  Aces.

Thanks to bass hole for his patrolling the park mid-week and for letting us use his truck as a stage :)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU everybody!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't say it enough.

(I have some short vids and some more pics of the day that I will share with everyone when I get home from work tonight.)

Thank you once again to everyone involved.

Delainey....you rock!! We are all rooting for you to get an A+ on this.  You've already gotten one from us.   ;)

We had a great time. We knew going in, that there would be some heavy hitters there. Our realistic goal was to catch one fish. We felt fortunate to have ended up with a 13" and a 14", and one that hit at the boat which I wasn't prepared for. It was well worth it to come out and help raise money for the kids. My partner Rick and I are both dad's, so it came from the heart.

Thanx to Russ and Delainey for answering my barrage of questions through email and PM's. This was our first tournament of any kind, so we wanted to be prepared. It was great to meet everyone, we were both pretty beat so we took off after weigh in. I got home around 6pm, and proceeded to pass out ;D We need some swivel seats in that boat! :D

Great job! Let's do it again next year! 8-)

From a dads prospective  I thank you all for supporting Delainey's efforts to help  make a difference in some very special young peoples lives as well as spreading the fun of fishing.

To all her helpers yesterday Dave Breault, Dave Kugler, Ron Proia, John Candelmo, Phil Gebler & the rest of the guys Thanks. To Ron & Terry Bestwick for your help in the week before the tournament and so sorry for the truck trouble on the way in Sunday morning, you were missed.

Joel St.Germain, while you an undoubtedly one of, if not thee best angler in the Northeast, it's was not so much about the techniques to catch fish that Delainey spoke about  after the  tournament, but more about the meaning of team fishing, partners as well as a few life lessons & having fun on the water.  Thank You.

To all the members from bassresource.com, many of which this was there first   tournament.  including Ron alpster from New Jersey. To dedicate that much time and driving to support her cause.   Thanks for your support.

To the C.A.S.T. For Kids crew who are just always willing to help behind the scene's.

To all the Anglers Thank You.  Your enthusiasm, support & having a just a fun relaxing day of fishing was a breath of fresh air after a long winter.

Again, Thank you all!

Delainey's  Dad.

This event was double fun for me! I got to hang out at Russ' place on Saturday night. He Steamed up a pile of fresh Lobster, clams and veggies for a dinner treat I don't get very often, it was awesome. I really enjoyed visiting and talking with Russ. Sunday was a super day on the lake. I got to meet some more of the BR members and see Craig (cigarlover) ( I thought I just left him in Texas a week ago). LOL I also had the privelige of fishing with Mike (Delainey's  Dad). I brought my Lake Fork curse to Rhode Island and kept us out of the running in the tournament, but there was no way to spoil the good time on the water. THANKS RUSS & MIKE for a great time in the biggest little state in the Northeast.

Ronnie

A very big KUDOS to everyone involved out there who contributed to this great event! It's very heart warming to read about your efforts, I can't imagine how great it must make you feel being a part of it all.  :)

Thank You for what you do!!

What's better than fishing? Fishing for a great cause!

Delainey what a great idea to have this ice out tournament to benifit C.A.S.T. Thank you and all who helped you.

This was me and (as LBH puts it) my posses first tournament. And although tin didn't win we weren't skunked either. All around it was a great day of fishing with alot of great people.

Well done! Sorry I couldn't make the event.

How does Ronnie get into so many pictures??  ;D

Where inthe World is ALPSTER??????????  Find him in the picture.

Well my day for this event started about 3:30a when my alarm clock went off. My buddy showed up a 4a god bless his soul. ;D Made the drive down to RI and started fishing. Went all day and we each only caught one fish but I have to say it was a great day of fishing just knowing that the whole thing was for a very good cause. Big Thanks to Delainey for having the presence of mind to put something like this together along with the rest of the Broggi family for making this such a big success. It really felt good to be a part of something so positive. So again thanks gang for doing it all and can't wait to see you guys again in August at the C.A.S.T. event!
