Small Ponds and such

Featured Replies

Hey I just joined and I'm looking to improve my bass fishing. I live close to several small ponds. One (its behind a CVS) has plenty of bass and bluegill and is only about 90 yards long. I've tried spinner baits as well as top water lures but have had no luck. Any ideas on how to catch bass here. The two other lakes are a bit larger but the water is very dark and murky. I never have much luck here either, but I have caught bass their. Any tips?

Thanks,

Steve

well i would say to start out with search baits such as lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits then when you know that the fish are in there, go to a jig or worm.  But i would say that you will probably have the most luck on the lipless crankbaits... good luck

i agree another lure that will get u alot of bite would be a lure like a mepps spinner or a roostertail...depending on size u can catch everything

I also agree.. anything that you can cover a lot of water with at a fast pace will pretty much be a good search bait.

top waters should work fine , but in small ponds since there may not be shad in em , so their main food comes from the tree's ( bugs/flies ect.) which translates to topwater baits. Also the other main food is worms (which translates to senko's and power worms ect.) and the other main food is the panfish or the small fish in the pond ( which translates to crankbaits and spinnerbaits so that means try getting crankbaits with the same color at the baitfish in the pond , like if there is bream try chartruse colors). with senkos try getting a dark color and texas rig it with out any weights and for youre retrieval just twitch it and pause. With youre crankbaits do not use a straight normal retrieval try a yo-yo retrieval or a stop and go retrieval with 3 second pauses near cover ,  or if there is no visable cover cast paralell to the banks and just retrieve em and do the same with senkos ect.  If youre still not getting any bites just throw ur lures in the middle of the pond and change spots often when youre throwing youre lures in the middle of the pond.

just my $.02

Throw an Arkie Salty Craw on one of their weedless jig heads and jig it back bouncing the bottom.  Also throw a weightless Creme Rigged Scoundrel Worm.  Those are killer for bass in ponds.

Dude, just stick with it. Some days the bite is just off. Others you'll kill 'em. Keep throwin the spinnerbaits. Its the most productive lure ever made. Ponds are the best fishing there is. Especially if the pond has a lot of bass, and a lot of bluegill. Try throwing crankbaits in a bluegill pattern. Match the forage. Sooner or later, the bites gonna turn on... and when it does, make sure you're there.
