Slop fishing is fishing pads and heavy weeds that lay on the surface. And fishing a frog on top. :-?

o i usually start late in the spawn and continue into summer using ribbit frogs

80 degree surface temp. Its best on sunny days. Provides excellent shade for big bass. Lillies are my favorite cover to fish. Until the surface temp hits 80, i'll be throwin a spinnerbait and tickin' those lilly reeds.

as soon as the slop appears i fish it. :)

+4.  Usually there are willing fish to bite slop lures when this thinking is followed; it makes me wonder if I could start earlier (before the emergent weeds are present) and have success?

with the water so low here in Fla, these days, it's getting to be all slop fishing.

In my home lake there are 3 small arched bridges.

I had to pull up my TM and push pole my way under two of them, and remember I fish from a canoe!!

I didnn't even attempt the third.  It looked ok from the side I was on, but at the other end was a huge clump of grass mat that I would have to push through.  I almost did it, except for the fact that everything you do going out has to be done again coming in, so I passed on it.

Too bad too, because most of the guys around my lake have those "bass hunter" type boats or tricked out jon boats and are not going under the bridges so the fish are only lightly pressured.

Anyone know a good rain dance?

I agree when it starts to appear.  I have fished here in Alabama in 2 tournaments already this year.  Slop fishing was a pattern in the Classic this year, and it wasn't all that warm here either.

I fish them when they first appear and through the fall and have caught fish there not only Bass but toothy critters as well where I go that's where the forage will be and that's where the predators will be.

Could not have put it any better myself.

I was fishing the slop a month ago... Then the lake level dropped 2 feet and the slop is now in 3 inches of water and the pads are 2 feet above the water surface.  I guess I will start fishing the slop again when we get some serious rain!

We have some serious rain here in PA and some snow along with it which is not what your looking for flash flood warnings are in effect wish I could send you some of our rain.

Good Luck.

I start when the slop grows in and the fish are in it ;D

We don't have slop year round so usually mid-late may is when we start getting a few mats. June is prime time for that kind of stuff though here.

I fish the slop any chance I get. Around here the surface alege grows really think (up to a foot of nasty green slime in late summer) and sometimes slop fishing is the only way to fish. I use a SPRO Bronzeye frog, slowly run it over all the junk, and the bass come up and slam it. It isn't very productive, but you got to do what you got to do. ;)
