Getting Started

Featured Replies

Hey everybody. I'm pretty new to bass fishing, it's been walleye and pike for a long time. Anyway, I need advice on lures. What is a good list of lures I should have? When should I use them?

Get you a good assortment of lures.

1. Senkos are great soft plastics you can wacky rig, dead stick them, texas rig them, or anything else you can think of.

2. Spinnerbaits, they will do a great job on active fish around alot of different cover.

3. topwaters, poppers, zara spooks, buzz baits all are great at early morning bites and sometimes will produce all day long in the right condtions

4. Crankbaits get them in an assortment of sizes and colors both with a lip and lipless styles great for probing deep and shallow.

5. sometype of plastic worm in different sizes from 4-10 inches.

This is just a start you will find that as time goes on you will need more and more different lures but these are a great basic start to have.

Read everything you can that has been published on this site, and then put your new-found knowledge into practice.  i.e. Go fishing!

You can learn for bass fishing yourself very thoroughly in about 30 years, or you can join a bass club and learn just about as much in three years. Seriously, find a local club with members who are open to teaching or at least allowing you to fish as a non boater.  Most clubs really welcome non-boaters, because it allows the veterans to remain in the bow when tourney angling to call the shots while fishing.  Many shortcuts to learning to be had while fishing with experienced anglers.
