2 seperate questions? points and  mats!

Featured Replies

ok i need to work on two things points and mats.

i always hear secondary points and stuff, whats the difference from a point and a secondary point. i hear it allot in the talk of seasonal movement. maybe someone can post a picture of a lake and display the difference.

mats. the lake i fish mats up on the top end thick in the summer. milfoil i believe. there quite a large area of it and i know for a fact there are big bass hiding in it. how do yous guy approach a large area of mats. do you just punch threw the first couple feet off of open water or get deep into it? also will you punch through every foot or so and work lmost every inch or punch once or twice and move a good distance?

Secondary points are the ones inside big coves or bays which are not on the main lake.

ahh, ok  do all point have to extend out far under the water or is it anywhere land forms a point of some sort. im assuming its only where it extends somewhat under water.

both and either.generally when one is speaking of secondary points they are visual.a secondary point is any point between the main lake points and land.specifically to a bass it is points between deeper water and shallow water .staging areas that bass use in seasonal movement.i.e. structure.

when fishing large expanse of mats look for something different.above water or below.milfoil especially opens up under the mat so fishing the edges can be effective.fish the seams, holes pockets.

Points. I had it explained to me a while back like this. Imagine a point as a christmas tree laying down with tip pointing toward the middle of the lake. The tip is a primary point. All the branches behind the tip are 2ndary, tertiary, quaternary, and so on as you move toward the base.

Mats, fish edge, push in and punch through, push in and punch through, rinse and repeat.
