Do pictures lie?

Featured Replies

I always like to look at the pictures of fish in the back of magazines. Now I don't want to call some of these people liars , but you will see one pic that says the bass was 8.5 and the one right next to it look alot smaller and the guy says it is 13.9. Just wondering if the angle or depth of the camera can have an effect , I'm sure in some cases it does but it can't have that big of one.

Absolutely. Perspective, particularly with a wide angle lens can make something closer to the camera appear much bigger than it really is.

There's tons of things that can make one bass look smaller, when in reality it's bigger. Some people hold the fish right up next to them, while others push the fish out and hold their arms out, thus giving the image of a bigger fish.

Cameras can also play a role. Then again, people could lie too.

I think it was Ls1Jay who totally threw me off. I saw 3 fish of his, all I figured to be 6lbs-7lbs, turned out (sorry if I'm wrong jay), but they were all 9-11lbs? Something around that. Point was, I was WAY off.

Some 5lb bass I've caught looked like they could easily be over 6 in person, and when photos were taken, they look like they would be lucky to be 3lbs.

Now that's funny.

that 2 lb bass looks like it could eat you!

Lmao, that's one of the longest bass I've seen. Hilarious.

Got Bassmaster magazine yesterday and it had two pics of two 10.2 lbs Bass in the Trophy Bass section.  The first pic had a young boy holding his Bass.  It looked to me to be a 3-4 lb Bass whereas the other 10.2 looked to be an accurate weight :-/.

I usually hold mine with my arm bent at the elbow so the Bass is not shoved out too far but yet it's not too close to me either :).

Imagine what a ten pounder would look like with that camera angle...... :)

It's all in how you hold this fish. This guy only weighed 2 pounds, but looks much bigger due to the camera angle...

:o

I think you should have used 2 hands to hold that fish!!!   ;D

haha. great pic!

"When" I catch a bass that big I will stick my head in it's mouth so there is no question on size ;D

No doubt about it a picture is easily manipulated.

When taking hunting pictures we take extra time and always make them look good.  Lots of tricks to make them look bigger.
