Okay, so what about Toyota Tundra's ???
I own 2 Aamco Transmissions in So Cal and there is no doubt in my mind that you will get 3x the miles with the Tundra that you will with Ford Chevy or Dodge. I own a 2000 tundra that I punish (spends as much time in 4wd as 2wd) and it has 180K on it no problems. I also own a 02 4 Runner and a 04 Highlander. Toyotas are the best vehicles on the road for the money.

Lake Perris
Spotties are pretty much history. Was great fishery for spotted bass in the 80s, but, people planted largemouth and they took over. Lake has some huge bluegill. Have not fished it for about 5 years.

New Mexico
I live in Weed and we fish at Ute lake. Helluva long drive, but that is where my boat is. Only ever fished one time at Elephant Butte and had my best luck on the river below it catching walleye. Ute is a real good lake, just a long drive is all.

NIGHT FISHING
What is a Q-Beam? On the black lights can you get a lantern that will do the same thing? Will green monofilament show up well at night? Sorry for all the stupid questions but all these posts got me excited about doing some night fishing!!

Is it just me or...
If you have not gotten a bite in a while. Dont change your lure or presentation. All you have to do is start eating a sandwich. It works every time. I have the studies and historical data to prove it.

Do pictures lie?
No doubt about it a picture is easily manipulated. When taking hunting pictures we take extra time and always make them look good. Lots of tricks to make them look bigger.

Landing Nets
just bought the rubber net also and have not used it yet. If there is a crank bait with 2 treble hooks in the boat with my 9 year old son it will be stuck to his shirt and the net in seconds. It was pretty funny the other day he had a crankbait stuck to him, the landing rope and the net all at the same time. I hope that net solves some of that. The net does seem a little to shallow but, i guess we will see.

catfish on a spinnerbait.
Caught a 7.7lb castfish on a 1/16 oz curly tail jig on a lead head using 4lb test line. Fought him for 10 minutes and when we got him in the net the jig was on the tip of his lip and fell off.

teaching someone fishing
If he is already sold on fishing get him prepared before he goes. Show him how to cast with a cheap rod and heavy line in a yard. Tell him how to keep the reel from tangling. Then make him practice a basic knot. The rest can be done at the lake.

Alex24, that is way to harsh. I dont have that kind of will power. Idaho, that is where I am leaning. Its just getting us 2 hyper guys to slow down and be patient. All of the advice we are getting is helpful. I printed the whole thread on Carolina rigs and gave it to my 9 year old to read so that he can start thinking along those lines.

Never seen this before...
Caught a 14" smallie 2 weekends ago and it regurgitated an old senko. I think there is salt in them and this one looked like it had all leached out. If i was to geuss it was in him for about a week. Never spit it out. thought it was food.

Ikas and Tubes...Rigging and fishing technique
Fishing lake in NE New Mexico and up till now have been using curly tail jigs and occasional crankbaits. The state record smallie came out of this lake last year. I want to start focusing more on the smallies and my 9 year old son (this is his first year fishing is definetly hooked on bass) A freind of mine in San Diego told me that he has good success with Ikas this spring so i bought some. My son rigged one on a lead head jig and has caught some fish. Someone told me they are to be rigged backwards (skirt up front) we have rigged them like a curly tail jig. What is the proper way to rig and fish them also what is the best way to fish tubes. I used to fish tubes for trout but not sure that it is the same. With trout it would be on 4lb test and slow retrieve with some twitches. thanks in advance.

Just found this site! Now I got a newbie que
The first time i fished the lake was early spring and the H20 temp was still like 48 degrees. The last few hours i tied on a small shallow running white crankbait like a big 0 and murdered the white bass and got a large mouth and 2 walleye. Since then have not had a shallow running crankbait bite that and the lake is full of snags. Keep in mind my 9 year old snags everything including the shore. I have bought some flukes but have never tried them. I understand these are fished like the curly tail jig? Like fishing light line because the lakes ifished in So Cal most were overfished and light line gave you an edge. Thanks for the responses and welcomes. I noticed there is a tackle section. Having been a moderator on another site should this topic be moved since it is a tackle question?

Just found this site! Now I got a newbie que
I have been on hunting forums for many years. Like the topic said, i just found this site and can see that it is a great fishing forum and it seems that it is well moderated as well. Here is a brief bio. We moved from Southern CA to South East New Mexico several years ago and there is almost no fishing where we live. While the hunting oppurtunities are awesome and I am obsessed with big game hunting,i went almost 2 years without going fishing since we moved out here. This year we got a place up in Logan NM right on Ute Lake (this is 4.5 hours from where we live). We have been up there fishing many times already this year and it is really the first time that my youngest son (9 years old) has really been fishing. He is obsessed with fishing now and i have never had so much fun than me and him out in the boat fishing. One day we fished 17 hours straight with no breaks eating while we fished. Started early in the morning and then set up lights and fished till 11:00 at night. Here is the question. This lake has large mouth, smallies, blue gill, walleye, white bass and crappie. We have tried all types of lures but we always go back to the same thing. Curly tail jigs in 1/8 0z up to 1/2 oz depending on depth or speed we are fishing. The reason we keep going back to this lure is that it catches every fish in the lake. Our favorite is ultra light rod and real 4#-#6 test and the 1/8 oz lead head with a 2" tail in white or grey/black. We Caught 8 keeper bass (large mouth 12-15" and smallies need to be 14" and we have caught them up to 16"), 5 keeper walleye, nine 1/3 lb blue gills, 2 white bass the last time out besides all of the shorties. My son also had pretty good luck with a Yamamoto Ika 3" on a lead head. By far, my sons favorite is catching bass. Can anyone recomend other lures that we would catch larger bass but, not give up all of the action we are getting into. I have Senkos, lots of the new plastics, crankbaits, etc.... but we keep going back to the leadhead with a curly tail jig. I am not sure if he has the patience to fish senkos, tubes and worms yet (this includes me) Would like my son to learn some other techniques, but, it is hard when you are catching fish. What other lures would you recomend that we can catch some larger bass, and still have lots of action. Thanks for anyones opinion here.

Speaking of weighing fish...
Sounds like the 15lber would be good for a freshwater boat. just checked it out on cabelas. $120 for the 15lber

What is the story on the Bogagrip. Is it digital or mechanical? How much does it set you back? Where do you get it?
