zoom baby brush hogs?
Zoom really hit a home run when they made these baits. If you like the Baby Brush Hogs, then also try a Super Hog. They're a little fatter but about 1/2" shorter. Either are absolutely deadly in a farm pond. I have caught some good fish with them in standing timber on larger reservoirs as well. I always fish them weightless or T-rigged. Green Pumpkin is the 'go-to' for me.

Favorite lipless crank
Another fan of the Strike King's Red Eye Shad and the XCalibur Hi-Tek Xr75. I'll throw the 1/2 oz bait only of the bite is slow. I prefer the 3/4 oz versions for bigger fish. I just bought one of each today in Sexy Shad color.

Sebile
They're supposed to....LOL! I have 4 myself in different colors. I prefer the 5" models. When the time is right, these things can catch some GOOD fish. The trick is to cast it, let it sink, and slow roll it back in with a steady retrieve.....twitching the tip of the rod ever so often.

Lake Sinclair Report??
Please don't post a link to GON or any other online fishing reports. I've read them all, and it seems like they are all from the same source. I'm wondering if anyone here has fished it recently and could share some advice/tips. We're fishing there this coming weekend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the difference between northern and florida bass?
Yep, F1 Hybrid Largemouths are a interbred combination of Florida and northern strain LMB. We have a local 505 acre reservior stocked with F1's. The State DNR said is wasn't uncommon for these to reach 16ish lbs. Now here's the kicker...they won't allow anyone to fish this place from a boat....YET! They've promised they would, but they've been promising for 4 years. The lake is approximately 7-8 years old right now. Everyone knows, if there's not a sizeable dent put in the population, the over-all sizes will suffer. I understand the Florida strain are a bit more aggresive when feeding, and the northern strain can thrive longer between meals. If/when the day comes when this place is open to public boaters, it 'should' be a haven for trophy bass....but they need to hurry.

which one???cabelas or bass pro?
Definitely not taking anything away from the BPS Extreme stuff as I have one and it's a very good setup. But I just got a BPS Bionic Blade rod and it is a fine rod also. About $20 less than the Extreme.

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur people in here
Well, (the wife) ordered a Ambassadeur 6500C3 today. I've heard the spool is smooth as silk. I can't try it out. Got me a BPS Bionic Blade XPS 7' MH rod coming for it too. I believe I'll be very satisfied. Gotta wait till Christmas but, I'll keep you posted.

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur people in here
Bout time to buy another bait casting reel. I already have an Ambassadeur 6000C that I like pretty good. It's still very smooth and I can cast it, seems like a 1/2 mile. What's the difference between the 6000C like I have and the 6500C3? Both are the round housing reels. I like the 6000 and up styles because of the line alarm (bait clicker) feature.

North American Fishing Club????
Anyone a member of this? They sent me a big envelope full of stuff wanting me to join. They claim they'll send me "fishing gear" for me to try out. I'm supposed to simply fill out a questionnaire telling my opinions about the product and the product is mine to keep. They are claiming rods, reels, rod/reel combos, lures, tackle, apparel and some other stuff. The membership fee is $1 per month. Does/has anyone experienced this club? Is it worth my time? Should I throw the stuff in the trash?

Found some old Bomber "wooden" lures....
Had a guy who was cleaning out an OLD barn give be a paper bag full of old Bomber lures. Most of them are made of wood. They are still in their original packs and have never been tied to a rod much less been in the water. The hooks still look new. I have probably 12 or so. I was wondering if these things are considered "antiques" or are rare. Anyone know anything about them? I'm going to try and research them a little myself.

Ah come on RW, I had a reply for Dabnis :-)
That's exactly the reason the property owner who owns the pond behind me forbids anyone to fish his 3 acre pond. He said that he "USED" to let people go down and fish all the time. Then he goes down there with his grandson and can't catch ANYTHING. The people that he gave permission to fish were taking home 10-20 bass per outting. Before he knows it, there's hardly any fish left in there. The main reason he's upset, is because he intially paid to have this pond stocked when it was new about 10 years ago. The people basically robbed him clean, nearly. Well he tells me that he had it restocked 4 years ago and there are finally some decent fish in there again.....but NO ONE except him and his family can fish it. I've begged and begged telling him that I ONLY C&R, but I'm sure he's heard that song and dance before. I can't blame him, but I'll respect his request and stay off his property......but MAN is it tempting!!!

Night fishing and things that go bump in the night
What's even more strange is that there's a rock quarry in my hometown that had the exact same thing happen. They were down about 200-300 feet blasting with TNT and hit the water table. The quarry filled up very quickly and A LOT of equipment never made it out. This was back in the mid 1950's. When I was a teenager, me and a buddy slipped down there one evening as the sun was setting. We were fishing with 12lb line. We heard something hit the water to our left that sounded like someone dropped a cement block from an airplane. We were startled and looking around wondering what exactly we just heard. All of a sudden something hits his bait and turns like it swam straight to the bottom. It was pulling like someone had tied an anvil on his line. His drag was set somewhere in the 2/3 to 3/4 range (tight). He was reeling has fast as he could, but the brakes simply wouldn't hold whatever this was. He finally ran out of line and nearly had the rod jerked out of his hands right before his lined snapped. To this day I can't even imagine what it could have been.

1st Bass Tourament + 1st time night fishing =
Took home the winner's purse!!!! 8-) As you can tell by my post count and previous posts, I haven't been back into fishing but a few months. Well, some of the guys at work decided we're going to have a little bass tournament last night. Entry fee was $40 per boat. Winnings were 2nd place: Entry Fee Refund, 1st place: Whatever's left. Last night we had 7 boats show up. We cut loose at about 6:30PM and weigh-in was 1AM. Me and my partner had our 5 bass limit before midnight....but we were kinda concerned, as the sizes were keepers, but barely. Only 3 teams caught their limit. Our 5 fish bag took 1st place @ 7.1lbs with 1 spot and 4 LMs and 2nd went 6.8lbs. We also took the "biggest fish" bonus which doesn't pay out quite yet. We're discussing starting a company exclusive fishing club with a points system and all the other jazz. We're gonna start the actual "season" in January and fish through Sept. Probably the 1st weekend of every month. The summer months will all be night tournaments. I'm pretty excited about finally getting involved with something like this. I'm sure it's a lot of fun. Anyway, just wanted to "brag" about my little payday!!!!

Baby Brush Hog Question
The last pack of baby brush hogs I bought was called "Mean Green" which is basically a green pumpkin w/dark red and blue glitter. The bass at the farm pond we hit last weekend absolutely wore this pack out in a few hours. I caught at least 3+lb'ers and a slew of 1-2 lb'ers. My buddy was using plain ole green pumpkin and caught noticably less quality fish than I did.....though he caught MORE fish...just not as much size than mine.

Jon Boat......question
OUTSTANDING!!!! The Cabelas product is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I know it would take some time....but I wonder if it'd be worth it to use that on every rivet that is below water level in the bottom and sides? Or just use it on the ones that obviously leak and worry about the others as needed?
