Small pond fishing tips

Featured Replies

Hello all, new poster here.  I've been fishing the small pond near the entrance to my subdivision lately after not fishing for years and have had some decent luck.  So far the only lure I've used it a small white roostertail and have caught many breem, a few smallmouth bass and a handfull of 3-4 lb largemouth bass, and a pretty big catfish that I estimate was between 10 to 15 lbs.

I'd like to play around with new baits and lures but would like advice on what might work well, and also what times of day would be good to fish a small pond.  So far I've only been fishing about 1 to 2 hours before sunset.  The pond itself is probably 200 feet by 100 feet with a fountain in the middle that is only on sporadically.  I would appreciate any tips or advice you could give.

welcome to the forums!  you have come to the right place for tips and advice thats for sure...i also fish small ponds about that size, i have had good luck on weightless senkos style baits, shallow cranks, and topwaters

i am sure there will be more people along soon with other tips, also i would recommend reading some of the great articles listed at the top of the page

I live on a small pond too, but not that small.  When I go fishing, I usually bring an extra pole and put a worm and a bobber on it.  After an hour, I see what hit the worms, and what hit the other bait I used (senkos in your case).  Then I would use that to see where fish seem to be hanging out at that time of day and be prepared tomorrow!

Welcome Paddy.  You don't happen to be from Texas do you?

Born and raised in a little bitty town called Brock.  Live in Weatherford now.  I thought I recognized your name from a guy I new in college.  Guess the TX thing was just a coincidence.
