Fish are usually in cover if fishing is slow, fish a worm TX rig or a jig and trailer.

you're going to want to get right into the heaviest cover you can find, or go deep, along ledges and creek channels.  Sometimes though, it seems no matter what you do, you just can't get a bite.  We all deal with it.

If you cant locate anything offshore in deeper water, find some deep docks. A good way to identify the deeper docks is that they'll be floating docks (with no posts.) There's always fish around docks. Just fish them slow and be thorough about it. Senko's, jigs, shakyhead.

If you have the patience for it topwaters can be deadly in the noon-afternoon.  I have caught some monsters on baby torpedos twitched every few minutes.  I mean minutes too.  Also a buzzbait with the biggest blade you can find worked as slow as possible close to every piece of cover you can see.  An original rapala floater as well, worked the same as the torpedo.  And hey, sometimes you might get a reaction stike too, although that usually works for me earlier or later, so try working those baits really fast if slow dont work.  Lets not forget toads either, rarely will I not get at least an exciting strike working them through the slop.

Whatever you try, Good Luck

I find that in any half day period there usually is at least one hour or so where the bite really picks up but then for whatever reason drops back off. Last Sunday my son and I were fishing our local pond and after all morning on vitually no action I switched to a torpedo and was casting to isolated weed mats in open water under a blazingly bright sun and caught one 8 lb.er and had another explosive strike but no hook-up with in ten minutes. My son also had on a very good fish on a hula grub cast to a floating weed mat but lost it in the jungle. Then nothing for the rest of the day. So it definitely is worth keeping at it inspite of the doldrums. I'd rather cast to empty water than watch TV or go to the mall any day.
