soft plastic frog hooks

Featured Replies

Have any of you tried the new double hooks by tru tungsten or gambler for the plastic frogs? If so, what do you think about them. I bought a pack of each and tried rigging them up. I definitely think the gambler hook with the corkscrew has a lot of potential. I'm not really crazy about the tru tungsten one though so far. I haven't been able to try either of them out on the water yet though.

I am going to try them.  Think they will work better then a single hook

Even if the hook up ratio is the same, it will be worth it if they keep the frog running straight. With the tru tungsten hook I was tearing the frog up trying to rig it. They show a video on it but the way the do it to not tear up the frog, you have to retie every new frog. They aren't cheap at 5 bucks for two hooks. But when your'e using braid you really don't lose many.

George, I haven't tried those as of yet but I will this spring and summer for sure..I have been using the 5 and 6/0 EWG Gammy superline hooks....have had excellent hookup ratios with them. I think the key with these hooks is to pause just a split second after the strike and let the fish load up just a touch before setting the hook. Bigger hooks work well also but I feel that the toads or frogs aren't lost or torn up as bad with 5 and 6/0's.

I haven't had much problem with hookups. The problem I have is with keeping the frog from rolling over, especially if it gets torn up a  bit.
