Guys, I remember a few years back, I was reading something about retail sales totals being ranked by sport/hobby.

It was either a list or an article, I don't remember but Golf was #1 and Fishing was #2 but had the higher growth rate.  

Can anyone find me any info pertaining to this?  I'd like to see it in print.  It may have changed by now as well, could be in a huge slump for all I know.  Basically looking for what sport/hobby has the greatest retail sales and then #2,3,4 etc

Russ, I remember seeing this info a while back in a Bassmaster Magazine. I want to say it was about 6 months back but it was the same data, Golf #1, Fishing #2 but a higher growth rate.

I could be wrong on this one but I could of sworn that participation in fishing was declining.

Looking for "retail sales" stats more than participation stats (although you would think they can go hand in hand)

Judging by what I was able to locate in my 5 minutes of searching, they

must not do that survey every year. A lot of sources only had the statistics

for 2001.

In Bassmaster Magizine it said fishing was the #1 eye related injury producer among sports. I don't know about most deadly though.

I think the Anglers 25.4 million or avg of $1357 / person is for 2006.

I think from 2001-2006 there has been a 12% drop in anglers.

Bass fishing has a highest growth rate in retail sales, golf is first. So since the amount of anglers is dropping and the rate of retail sales is growing=Baitmonkey is happy because we are just spending more money.

Yeh I dont understand it. There is a 12% drop yet in my mind the sport is growing under the national eye. It's on TV more then ever and it seems that the sportis gaining respect.

The show manswers on spiketv says that fishing is the #1 most deadliest sport in North America because of boating accidents related if I remember correctly. The show is pretty entertaining although I get an occasional slap behind the head from my girlfriend while watching it. They often have hot girls dress in bikini to conduct experiments. I will then have to tell her its for educational purposes only :

No, they included weekend anglers because sometimes they fall overboard and can't get back on the boat and then result in hypothermia.

I don't even try to keep up with what I spend in a year on fishing

( It's embarrassing ) But I know I help keep America going and the oil people too.
