Lures for Warm December

Featured Replies

Usually this time a year in NC the fish are usually slow and dont bit much for me, but not with the temperature in the 70s what types of lures would work on a warm day? Also what kind of lures work good below 60 degrees

NCThompson,

I have been fishing as hard as I can the past 3 days. I have caught about 5 this week on a shad rap rs in shad color. I have caught 2 on a spook jr. one in the morning and my new pb a 5lb this evening. I have also caught 2 today on a 10 or 12 in red shad culprit. With the past 3 days being in the upper 70's lower 80's the fish have started moving back into the shallows. Enjoy it while you can, I am loving it and laughing when people are saying they are fed up because this isn't winter weather. Other than the 5lb they have all been dinks, but to me a fish is a fish and I am learning. Hope this helps some, considering we are fishing the same town.

o dang i didnt know anyone else here was from jacksonville. where do you fish at?

The ponds on Lejeune and the Air Station. Sometimes take my boat out in new river, and I want to make a trip to sutton lake sometime soon.

o thats cool. i take my little pelican out on mill creek down by mai tai but didnt have any luck this past weekend. so rapalas are what u are using and are having luck? ill have to try them next

The last few weeks we have been fishing the Roanoke River and we average

at least 25 to 35 keeper bass each day. Week before last it was around 28 degrees and the water was about 47, the first five cast I made I had a limit of

14" keepers. They were in about a 2 foot of water. I am going to Lake Harris this Sunday to fish the ABA, sure hope the big ones are shallow. Oh yea I caught all of them on Bandit cranks and 1/2oz

Rattle Trap.

Go DUKE!

Mill Creek has fish in it, but I haven't heard a lot about bass.  Maybe you should look for some different spots. If your parents are military, then you should get a base fishing license, the ponds are decent. I fished a little hole on base for a long time and caught a few here and there, and wondered why I was having so many problems.  Come to find out the pond is way over pressured. There are a few bass in there, but I seemed to have better luck finding the ones way back in the woods. Since I have done this I am catching fish and gaining confidence.

well my parents arent military. i know there are fish in mill creek like gar and bow fin but i want to find some bass in jacksonville. i have a trolling motor, so i can take my boat a little ways out of mill creek. Have you ever fished by the marina docks?

Head towards the Marina from the USO ramp and hang a left out by the little island. Go up about 300 yds and start fishing.  There are also some ponds back towards Richlands, and some creeks and ponds up near pollocksville. Good luck

You could also go up to the Trent river right there in Pollocksville. There is a nice ramp right there beside US 17. River is not very wide so you would not have to worry about wind problems. Also if you wanted to drive a little ways, you could take 53 over to Burgaw, right before you get to I40 there is a road called Shaw Hwy/road turn left on that road and go about a mile or two and Shelter Creek boat ramp is on the left.

ha... i wish wisconsin was having a warm december right now...

I wouldn't advise going by holly shelter, shaw highway. I go deer hunting there and the creek is so low you couldn't get a boat in it. But the trent is good to go.

there is a such thing as a warm december?????  lol :o :-? ;D

Yeah we have had an unusually warm Dec. I hope it don't come back to bite us in the rear.  It has been warm in the winters here for th past few years, and I have a feeling we will get some of the bad stuff this time. I will enjoy it while I can though.
