Muddy Water and Split Shot Rig

Featured Replies

I was reading the article about split shot rigs on the homepage and decided to try it out.

One of the "lakes" (man-made neighborhood body of water and to big to be called a pond) I am going to try it out on is always muddy, usually around 4 inches of clarity.

I am hesitant, though, because the temperature has been very cold recently, and I am not for sure if the bass can see the small worm.  One of my fishing buddies told be to put a small plastic container filled with beads in the worm so the bass would feel the vibrations.  Do you think this would work?  Thanks for the help.

You could also use a bullet weight unpegged where your split shot would go, and then peg a bead so the weight hits it.  Just a thought.

In cold muddy water there are much better options. Even with beads and such there wont be too much vibration. In this type of water you want baits that displace a lot of water such as a spinnerbait, crankbait, or a jig.
