Bass releasing question

Featured Replies

Im sorry if this question has been asked before, but does it harm the bass or do anything to it if u catch it in one part of the lake... keep it in the live well and then release it in a totally different place???

BASS did some research last lear during the tournaments where they tagged some caught fish and tracked them. Strangely most of the time the bass would go back to where they were caught from. Unless it is from somewhere farther than 5-10 mi then I guess that they would probably just find somewhere to live there.

He 's not asking about that, he 's asking that if you catch a fish and put in the livewell then go with him up and down the lake for several hours would it be harzardous for the fish releasing it in another part of the lake.

The answer is: IT DEPENDS on how you have kept the fish in the livewell.  If you kept the fish like crap ( hot water, poor oxygen levels , the fish was banged all over the livewell for not having the livewell at adequate level, if you switched on and off the pump, etc, etc, etc ) obviously the probabilities of harming the fish increase when not kept in the proper conditions, the more the fish sufferes the more damage it 's going to suffer. The better you keep you livewell conditions the less the fish is going to be harmed if harmed at all.

Josh, I'll answer this with two answers.     If you planned on releasing that bass in another body of water other than were it was caught, not in the same lake?    Could it do harm?  Yes.

Is it wrong to keep a bass in a livewell and release it in another part of the lake?   No, as long as your livewell works adequately, and your not keeping bass in hot water in the summer which could really stress them.

Always use Additives to your livewells.   We have some great sponsors on here with great livewell addititives!!

The two most important additives you add to your livewell if you happen to have a closed livewell system ( the livewell doesn 't exchange it 's water with the lake/river water ) are water conditioner for fish which lightly sedates the fish plus contains aloe vera which coats the areas where the fish slime was removed and an ammonia locker.

simply put

Keeping your livewell up to par so that fish are not getting beat up/losing oxygen is a good way to insure the fishes well being.

If a bass is caught in the same exactly spot time after time that bass will leave that spot and search for another spot in that area...

Usually a bass returns to the area it was caught in

I personally have taken bass from a small pond, and placed it another bigger pond tagged it and so far it has survived...
