what do you think

Featured Replies

here is a pond we have been thinking about fishing it is approximetly 24 acres, my question is one do you think a 12 foot jon boat with a trolling motor would be able to do the job and if so how and were would you fish it

Every pond I fish, and I fish alot of ponds, is fished with a 12 foot boat and a trolling motor! Never had any problems, even in ponds twice that size. As for the second part of the question I would fish every square foot as often as I could! And I always start with plastics in a new pond to learn a little about the bottom, depth, structure etc.

Good luck, looks like a beautiful place!

Sure, no problem.

Just be mindful of your battery power so you don't get stranded and have to row back to your launch site.

As for fishing the pond, may I suggest taking your time and enjoying every inch of it.

If you have a sonar unit you can map the bottom and find the humps, banks, brush, cover and structure.

Enjoy!

I think you would have no problem with your boat and motor. As Sam said keep a close eye on your battery. A spare battery would be great.

As for where to fish, I would start at the boat ramp and not stop until I fished every bit of it. It looks like a nice lake to spend alot of time on.

A john boat would be fine on that pond, as well as ponds considerably larger. One potential problem, depending on where you are and the nature of that pond, is weeds. There are two ponds which I fish regularly from my partner's boat. At times these ponds can be so weed-choked that they're not navigable with a trolling motor. And if the weeds are really thick and/or the stuff is that matted slime, then even paddling a canoe is difficult.

if it has a dam of some kind, hit the corners of the dam first it is always a good place to start whenever i fish an unfamilar body of water

If you need a spare battery on that pothole, then you most likely need a new battery.

As mentioned I would invest in back up battery; I'm extremely intrigued with the western portion especially around the 2 large points. I'm curious to know if that is small islands or grass between the points.

This is how I roll. Most places are between 180 and 250 acres....

Yep, MattStrykul nailed it! It's a 1987 Crawdad that my neighbor gave to me. LBH is right, sometimes people just want to get that old eyesore out of their yard.  ;) I cleaned it up, bought a new drain plug and some rope for the free anchor and away we went. Put more fish in that bought this summer than I can remember.  :) The boat stands me about $20 right now.

When I first started serious bass fishing back in the 70's I fished a slow stretch of river that was a couple of miles long and a couple hundred yards wide at it's widest.   I did this in a neoprene inflatable with oars.    I cut a 1/4 piece of plywood and laid it down as a floor.  Sat on a life jacket (PFD was an unknown term back then) as a cushion and spent hours floating around and catching bass.

I don't see how anyone could NEED a TM for a 24 acre pond, and the thought of two batteries is just too ridiculous to comment on.
