WHERE TO PLACE COVER

Featured Replies

HEY GUYS GOT A SMALL 4 TO 5 ACRE POND WITH VERY LITTLE COVER WANT TO SINK SOME. BUT DEPTH DROPS OF DRASTICLY TO 20 TO 25 IN THE MIDDLE AND 10 TO 15 ON THE END . WHERE SHOULD WE DROP THE COVER? :-/

I wish I had that problem-you're very lucky

Do all different depths and see what works out

you can always move unproductive ones next year

called man made brush piles with great info

Good luck

Good question.

In a pond you want to place cover in many depths all over the lake, but dont add too much cover. Sinking a brushpile or two deep in the middle of the pond gives baby bass protection from bigger fish in the winter when all fish are driven deep, so doing this ensures that this years spawn wont end up in the belllies of the bigger fish come next winter and shallow cover gives you something to fish in the spring and fall.

i'd put it not too far from shore where there's some kind of decent depth change therefore the bass wont travel too far to find it and they'll most likely already be in the area, just more concentrated now.

Place some shallow for spawning habitat, mainly for the smaller fish.  Then place the rest between the intermediate/deep drop offs.

If you have already located some spots on the pond that are more productive than most of the pond, then put it there.
