High winds on bed fish

Featured Replies

I recently fished a lake that the bass started to get into spawning and staying on nests that were around 1-3 feet of water if not 4-5 . we got some 25-30 mph winds that made gigantic white capes and waves were smashing the shore. the water within 10 feet was filthy. my question are those fish still on those beds even though the waves were strong or would the move off for some sort of protection from the silt and current? im thinknig there still gonna be there on the beds no matter what but idk :-/

Texas rigged Lizard or Craw Worm fished slowly; if the bass had built nest but had not yet laid eggs they will back off but not far.

thanks that was sorta what iw as thinking. but up here in ny we dont have many lizards u still stink lizards will be that affective?

And that's only IF they moved.  It's only rough to you ;)

The problem here is that sight fishing is out the window with that kind of wind.  We are dealing with a windy spawn also (more like 15-18mph but....) and we are basically blind casting in the spawning areas, hoping to get lucky.  Funny thing is, we are finding lots of fish like this.  Almost like wiping the slate clean.  Forcing it clean for that matter.

Good luck, stay on 'em :)

The above suggestions are great but if they do not work for you just remember that not all of the fish in the lake spawn at the same time.  Use the wind to your advantage and mix in some power fishing in different sections of the lake.
