Split shot with bullet weight?

Featured Replies

I have some small (1/8 & 1/16) tungsten bullet weights and was thinking about using them on a split shot set up by pegging them 12" to 24" above a worm. When fishing rocky bottoms a regular split shot weight seems to snag on the rocks... doesn't get hung up, just catches on the rock edges, cracks, etc.

Do you think using a bullet weight in this fashion would work well?  Would the weight stay in place?

Thanks,

Tom

I've done it before and it works great, make sure to use rubber pegs, better than a tooth pick

Are these the type of pegs you use:

Srv1990,

Find some "Carolina Keepers" and use those.

You can then move the bullet weight up and down the line easily.

Put one in front and a second behind the bullet weight when fishing the split shot rig.

Remember, by using a "Carolina Keeper" you will not damage the line by crimping the round weight or pegging the bullet weight to your line.  :)

"Peg-It" and "Peg-It 2" are much better and easier to use (don't have 10 posts, so cannot post a link; check out Tackle Warehouse for the items).

These are all great options. Another one is the Mojo weight. It's a cylinder weight. I use a 1/16oz all the time. It's great for grass and rocks and everything in between. I peg it 5 to 18 inches above the hook and fish it just like a splitshot. To me there isn't anything better.

I like the tiny bullet weights as well, but I use it a bit differently. I rig it carolina style, with a tiny #10 Spro crane swivel, an appropriate sized red glass bead, then the weight. I've never bothered to peg and have had no ill experiences with this set-up.

Thanks a lot guys for the input and suggestions, it's much appreciated!

Try using the split shots with out the little "Ears", the completely round ones. They come through stuff very well.
