Replacement Treble Hooks

Featured Replies

I have always heard on cheaper crankbaits to switch out the factory hooks.  Most crankbaits i lose very few fish but my favorite shallow cover, squarebill crank seems to cause me to lose a bunch.  I have always been stubborn and not put in the effort to switch the hooks.  I have decided to do the right thing and change em out.  I think I am going to buy some Owner Stinger trebles but my question is, what size trebles do you guys like for cranking shallow wood and would you recommend another replacement treble hook?

I think you are going to find the answer depends on the size of the bait.

for most shallow water cranks, I would go with a size 4 most of the time and size 6 on the larger baits.  Look at the original hooks on the bait and just replace accordingly.

Size 6 is smaller than 4...do you use smaller hooks on bigger baits?  I assume you just got them backwards.

a size  4 hook is larger than a size  6 hook  in treble hooks
