will a small jig be my best bet?

Featured Replies

hey guys friend of mine just got a boat and he wants to test it out this weekend.  The lake were going to is a Metro Park lake its about 46-acre and get a lot of fishing pressure from the bank.  I wanted to get your views on what lure I should use.  Should I bunker down and throw a small jig or a normal sized one all day and hope for the best?  never really fished a jig that much but from what I've learned here it cant be beat and cold water. Thanks guys as always you guys are lots of help!

I wouldnt bank on a small jig or a big jigg, let the fish decide for you. You have to be versital try some small finess jiggs in a couple different colors and if there not working upgrade to a larger size and try a few different trailers. If you try several different presentations and several size/color variations you will find what they want. Ask around at some bait shops or ask some other locals what colors and sizes are working best. If jiggs arent really doing it try a texas rigged craw or some other soft plastic. Spinnerbaits are also a great spring time bait and can cover alot of water.

I would put my $ on a 7" Zoom Trickworm(or other straight tail) with a 1/8-3/16oz weight and a Gamakatsu hook.  Twitched very SLOOOOOWLY!
