This terminology seemed to pop into everyday lingo last year before the Classic on Hartwell and I am looking for a clearer definition of it. Can someone define what exactly a drain is? I am pretty sure it is regarding a ditch running into a spawning area but am not 100% certain.  I am having a duh moment right now. :-? Thanks!

Ditches/drains are most common in reservoirs. They're narrow ruts in the bottom formed by water run-off from surrounding hillsides before the formation of the reservoir.

Ditches/drains provide a depth change & a breakline that bass follow from deeper water to bank shallow.

So basically is it just another definition of a bass' migration route from the main channel to their final spawning area?

Catt man, that was an excellent definition. These types of structure can be  an important way of finging bass. Sometimes the smaller and less noticed they are can turn out to be very productive. If you find one that gets overlooked by others, fish it at various times of the day or certain seasons because it may hold quality fish.

Not necessarily since a ditch/drain may or may not run into a creek/river; a ditch/drain is an indention where rain water ran down a sloped area. Do not confuse this with ditches/drains cut into the soil for drainage purposes such as ditches along side a roadway or ditches/drains for agricultural purposes. All three examples can be used as break lines which bass will follow but the ditches/drains down a slope will travel from shallow to deep water where as the other two probably will not.
