"TAKE A KID FISHING"

Featured Replies

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA

I REMEMBER WHEN:

I WAS YOUNGER MY FIRST FISHING MEMEORY THAT I CAN RECALL WAS IN FACT W/ MY MOTHER. (MIND YOU I WAS TO YOUNG TO REMEMBER ANYTHING ELSE FROM THIS TIME PERIOD & AT POINTS MY MOTHER HERSELF HAD TO FILL ME IN ON SOME OF THIS ADVENTURES DETAILS) I WAS IN SACRAMENTO. WE CAME ACROSS A PIECE OF BAMBOO THAT HAD FISHING LINE TIED TO IT W/ A  HOOK (DUE TO SOMEONE NOT PACKING OUT THERE STUFF). BUT WHAT IS ONE MANS TRASH BECAME MY TREASURE FOR THAT INSTANT. AT THE WATERS EDGE WE FOUND SOME CLAMS, IN WHICH I WAS TOLD TO USE FOR BAIT.

ALTHOUGH I DID NOT CATCH ANYTHING, THE MEMORY THAT I HAVE STILL & ALWAYS WILL REMAIN. SOMEHOW I KNOW THAT THIS HAD TO BE MY START INTO MY NEVER ENDING FISHING ADVENTURES: THOUGH IT WASN'T TIL I WAS ABOUT 6 YEARS THAT MY FATHER STARTING TAKING ME EVERY WEEKEND.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS THAT:

IF YOU TAKE A CHILD FISHING, THAT IT IS IN FACT AN EXPERIENCE THAT THEY'LL NEVER FORGET, AN INFLUENCE THAT STRESS'S PRESERVATION & PATIENCE, & A LOVE FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN GO OLD WITH.

I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I IN FACT AM THE FIRST TO TAKE 4 OUT OF 8 COUSIN'S FISHING FOR THERE FIRST TIME, & STILL TAKE THEM OUT ON THE REGULAR BASIS.

GOOD LUCKS TO YOU IN CATCHING THE "BIG KAHUNA."

;)

When I was young our city sponsored a "Take a kid fishing" event.  Kids were matched up with guides/pro's.  I can't remember which guide I got, but a girl, the guide and myself went to this little lake and caught 20 bluegills each.  It was so a complete blast, we were catching bluegills as soon as our bait hit the water.  When we were all done, our guide took all the fish home, and instead of bringing us each bluegills, brought over some fresh walleyes. :)  Great times.

MY FIRST FISH I EVER CAUGHT WAS A 7" LARGEMOUTH, OUT OF FOLSOM LAKE, FOLSOM (SACRAMENTO COUNTY), CALIFORNIA. I WAS USING A TOPWATER SPINNERBAIT, FISHING ALONG A DOWNED TREE & "BAM," THE LITTLE GUY TOOK THE LURE. I WAS SO PROUD OF MYSELF, & GOSH I WAS SUCH A LITTLE KID. I MEAN WHEN YOUR A LITTLE KID CATCHING A FISH FOR THE FIRST TIME ITS LIKE BEING LET LOOSE IN A CANDY STORE. I REMEMBER THATS ALL I COULD TALK ABOUT TO MY LITTLE BUDDIES IN SCHOOL, HOW I WENT FISHING WITH MY FATHER & CAUGHT MY FIRST FISH.

GOOD GOOD TIMES!

GOOD LUCKS TO YOU IN CATCHING THE "BIG KAHUNA."

Kids remember these days.  The memories are priceless.

What's a topwater spinnerbait, a buzzbait?
