Brackish Water

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I fish a bay here on eastern LI that is sometimes opened by the town to the atlantic, thus making the water brackish. I've caught a lot of largemouth bass here, but was wondering if anyone had any advice? The deepest it gets in the main part of the bay is about 15 feet and the bottom is rocky. I'm assuming there are saltwater species in there. Ive caught some snapper. But i usually catch the bass in the inlets where the bottom is typically very muddy and no deeper than 3 feet. The water is very stained consistently and fish ive caught hold closely to docks and shoreline reeds. Thanks.

When water becomes brackish i tend to try and use something that push water or vibration. It'll give the bass something to key in on.

Tidal fishing timing is extremely critical, tidal fish move a lot but can be very predictable. When you catch them pay attention to time and tidal level and get you a tidal chart. Some spots are good on high tide, some on low tide, and some spots are good in between. Your job is to determine when a spot is best and then to duplicate the timing in the future.

Low tide positions fish on the outer edge of cover while high tide positions fish farther into cover.
