taxidermy???

Featured Replies

hey guys i thought i might ask around and see how many of you do fish taxidermy like me? :(

sorry but no. Sounds kind of intersting tho. Could you explain the process to me?

I have not done a skin mount but I have done many reproductions. Some bought and some made from my own molds.

Why the sad face ?

I'd like to know how a 15 year old got into taxidermy? That is a heck of a hobby and a great way to make money for school/fishing etc.?????

Good for you!!!! :)

A long time ago, in my teen years actually, I took the Van Dike Taxidermy book class. I skin mounted a couple fish. It's an art, that's for sure. With todays reproductions the fish end of the business has become mostly a painting deal.

oh yeah it isn't exactly the easiest process! bass and other warm water fish are easier to skin cause they have a much thicker skin. trout and salmon are mainly light skinned and require a fake (reproduction) head. i just got into it a few months ago and am getting steadily better at it. ;) and yes, it is true that the painting is the largest part of fish taxidermy mainly because the color fades a lot to completely and it is quite a chore! well i just thought i might ask but thanks for being at least interested ;D

go to ataxadermy suply website like Van Dykes or Wasco and you can buy a basic kit and instructional video. Mount up a big bluegill and see how you like it.
