Hey Folks-

I'm trying to find out how many NEW people take up/start fishing each year in the US.....

I've read statistics that say anywhere from 40 million to 60 million people in the US do some freshwater fishing each year, but how many NEW people start fishing each year?

I'm not looking just for die-hards, but in general, people that start or fish for the first time each year?

Anyone know?

Would be interesting to get the official estimate.

I bet it's low.

I think a lot of these fisherman end up quiting too.  Most the people I know have never kept up with fishing.  Some say they are fisherman, but I know otherwise.

i personaly started last summer, but i have excelled alot due to the fact that i have researched for over 600 hours since then.  im addicted now and have advanced alot since the summer.  i have also used all that research on the water which helps alot more then the actual research.

are you asking about total #s or the identity of the anglers?

Total numbers each year (as in, ___ people each year take up fishing in the US....)
