Casting video

Featured Replies

Does any one have any recomendations on videos for casting. My biggest problem is I constantly get tangles in my line.

I'm assuming you are having troubles with a baitcaster so, go to youtube.com and type in "How to use a baitcast reel". Or, you could just google the same thing and find videos that way. There are also videos on there on how to fix backlashes as well. That's how I learned.

WHEN are you getting the tangles? Immediately? When the bait hits the water? All the time?

Make sure your reel is rated for the weight of the baits you're throwing, and adjust your brakes accordingly. Make sure your casts are smooth. Takes some practice to get it right.

Thank you, I get the tangles all the time. I keep trying to adjust the drag and get the same results. I'll keep practicing.

This is a baitcaster, right? don't adjust the drag, adjust the brakes. Also make sure the spool tensioner is not too loose. smooth casts are key, you can cast hard, but has to be smooth. Also make sure you're not releasing your thumb too early. If you release too early, the spool will be spining faster than the bait is moving, and you'll get a tangle.

When you get a tangle that won't just pull out, put pressure on the spool with your thumb and reel it in, and try pulling it back out. If you keep doing that, you're almost guaranteed to get it out every time.  Start with the brakes fully on, get comfortable with your release time and accuracy, and slowly start letting up on the brakes.  WIth the brakes all the way on, distance will suffer, but it's a good learning experience and slowly easing off the brakes will make a smooth transition.

Cast like "a girl"; no really. Remember when you were little and were playing catch with someone that "threw like a girl"? No offense to the ladies, I know there are ladies that can throw and cast far better than the average guy!

My point is, there is a definate and deliberate look to a person just learning to throw a ball. They hold their hand way back behind their head and kind of awkwardly and gingerly swing their stiff arm over their head. I would attempt to learn the baitcaster in the exact same motion. It will help you to keep your wrist in place, and your arm motion smooth. While learning to throw a baitcaster think through and throw it. You want to use you arm to get it out there.
