Pond Fishing

Featured Replies

I'd be interested to know how many of you guys fish ponds versus big lakes or reservoirs? I fish ponds and small reservoirs, but I especially like the ponds. I find pond fishing very fun, relaxing, intimate...

I like fishing ponds in the evening. By myself. I like fishing big lakes with friends out on a boat.

the line under my profile said it all.... then changed it. lol

Small Pond Ohio Bassin' All The Way! (now ive upgraded to my small lake.... but same idea!) ;D

I perfer large ponds and very small lakes (under 25 acres).  Ponds would have to be my favorite though, so much more intimate as mentioned above.

I have two ponds and a small canal in my apartment complex.  I know I am very spoiled as I can walk 2 minutes and be ready to fish.  I've caught a few 4 pounders but nothing of huge size.  I'm not complaining, but I am curious as to what the big daddy weighs in there.  I caught 4 fish this morning using a speed worm.  I've found this bait to be so versatile I almost use it exclusively (unless I get up early enough to throw some topwater lures).  All in all, I love my ponds and I always catch and release.  I want those fish to grow big and strong so we can meet again!  :)

I actually find my most enjoyable fishing, and when I seem to catch my biggest bass, comes on waters way too small to get my bass boat into, and I'm using my little jon boat. My top 4 biggest bass of all time, have come while fishing smaller ponds, under 30 acres.

Ponds rock!

Great fishing.

And it is inexpensive as you can fish it from the bank.

Caught my largest bass in private ponds.

Nailed an 8-pound lady last week at my double secret farm pond.

Caught a total of 24 LMB the same day during the four hours I fished the pond.  :)

I vary, i always like going to a pond, but also enjoy going to big lakes. Just depends on how much time i have.

I love to fish ponds with my 7 yr old when he feels like going. It's much more difficult to pack up and go home when you're way out on a lake somewhere.  ;D

This way we catch a couple of fish, play on the playground, then drive home.

Pond & creek fishing will always be my favorite since that's how I started out as a kid. It brings back great memories. In addition, they are inexpensive to access and can be fished on a whim. Ponds are a great place to practice techniques that you can use on larger waters. ;)

I fish nothing but ponds, because I have no immediate access to a lake.  I'm a soft plastics man, texas or wacky rigged.  I've had luck on crankbaits, spinners, and some topwater as well.

Fishing ponds is fun imo since you can learn to deal with a variety of different conditions.  I also like the challenge of being quiet/sneaky when approaching the bank, thinking about your presentation.

99% of my fishing is from the bank at ponds. Luckily, where i live you can stop at almost any retention pond around here and get something.

And most of the phosphate pits have decent bank fishing

i fish mostly ponds and small lakes because my dad is to lazy to take the boat out >:( but ive caught all my biggest bass out of ponds

Since I float tube fish, I prefer small ponds and lakes to the larger ones. The lake I frequent, Upper Otay, is only 60 acres and easily fished from my ft:o)

I like both, but I have easier access to a neighborhood pond behind my house, so I fish a pond more often. I am not complaining though, because I have caught a 21", a 23", and a 24" Bass out of it.
