fishing in clear water

Featured Replies

there is a local quarry near my house that is super clear. the visibility is about 25 feet. i can see bass in shallow water sitting in the weeds and they dont spook when i walk by. I cast all types of lures and none are producing. what lures will get these fish to bite?

try some soft plastics in natrual colors, with a slow fall rate.  Make sure you cast close to the fish, but not right on top. downsize if needed

A "natural" bubblegum colored finesse worm rigged wacky on fluorocarbon line. Be patient for the bait to fall the 20' or so. Add a size 3d steel finishing nail in the worm head if it is windy.

Using that color, you can track the decent and see when they take it. Works for me !!!!!!!

The problem is: you see them---> they see you and that immediately puts them in alert mode so it has more to do with cocealing your presence and making an excellent presentation that with what you fish, natural colors ? ---> BS ( don 't know why people always come to that ), why I say it ? because 30 years bass fishing experience tells me so, my home town is blessed with several small lakes plus numerous well fed irrigation ponds with crystal clear water where I 've caught hundreds of fish with completely un"natural" colors ( like bubble gum/charetruese/orange/firetiger baits ). However concealing my presence does have a direct impact on how the fish respond to my offerings.

What Raul said. I just experienced this the other day at my favorite 25-30 foot visibility lake. Walked down close to the water to see the structure/cover and undoubtedly the local bass saw me and I saw them, cast to them for no bites. Came back 20 minutes later and I was casting to the edge of the cover I had seen while standing 15 feet from the water, two bites and two fish.
