Safety moment

Just a reminder to not take things for granted while on the water. This weekend I was trying to free up a crankbait that was hung in grass and when it let loose it came flying at me like a rocket and stuck in my calf. Needless to say I ended up going to the ER to have it cut out. Tried the old trick of pushing all the way through but ended up cutting the hook too short and pushed the whole thing in my leg. Was not a fun experience. Also always wear glasses while fishing. If that would have hit me in the eye with no glasses it would have been real bad.

There is a lot of energy stored in a fishing rod.

This reminds me of one time i was practice fishing in the backyard with only a 1/8 egg weight tied on, I got it stuck in a tree and gave it a good ole tug to get it loose, it did come loose and flew directly into my upper lip. I could have easily chipped a tooth or broken the window that was right behind me. I'll chalk it up to a good warning shot.

yup! I just had one flying back at me a couple days ago.

Sorry to here that you had to go through that. I usually where my sunglasses too and I didn't have them on at the time because it was already too dark.

I was lucky that my matrix/ninja reflexes saved me last night, but I might not be so lucky next time. :-[

Guy fishing in a tourney I was in yesterday put a jig halfway through the joint on his thumb doing that yesterday. He was trying to protect his face, so I guess he lucked out in that aspect. Better thumb than eye.

There was a photo a few months ago here on a local bass fishing website of a poor guy with a treble hook in his right eye. Same situation as you mentioned. It made me queezy to look at it.

yeah thank god I wear glasses. I was fishing with my mom the other day and she was trying to do something and out of no where I got hit right in the center of my right lens with her lure.

wow, glad to hear you're ok... I had that happen with a split shot a few months ago, it came free, sounded like a gun went off, and nailed me right in the back of the hand.
