midwest froggin...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Im in northern IL.  Im just wondering if you guys around the midwest (same kind of temps) are having problems catching with frogs.  Is it too cold?  I see frogs all over hopping around.  Just curious, cuz I am having a real rough time with the froggie.   :)

This time of year the frogs are getting ready to hibernate. Not so sure a frog is your best lure choice though.

Thanks guys,

So real slow or not at all.  I thought it was about time the frogs were starting to hibernate, but wasnt 100% sure.  Now I know.

Thanks again.   :)

BTW, no offense to other guys around the country for not asking you, just figured this was a regional thing.   ;D

I believe frogs hibernate at around the same temps bass spawn...and our surface temps are below that here in central il.  I would say the frog bite is over.

On the other hand, there can still be a top water bite, and i would not be scared to throw a horney toad or anything that moves quickly.  Hows that for a flip flop.

you should try the frogs in mid summer or spring.

I am about an hour to hour and a half drive south of you and the frog bite has been rather slow lately. Whats funny and what I can't figure out is that the bass are hitting topwaters right now, just not so much the frogs.

Can toss a chug bug and get hits all day long, but throw a popping style frog in a similar color and not much happening. Picky creatures them bass be.
