How to store salt baits?

Featured Replies

How do you store senkos and other baits with salt added? If I take them out of the factory packing will this hurt them? Will they draw or hold moisture in my tacklebox?

I have a Plano tacklebox with removable boxes and there is not alot of room for bait packaging. If I can store in slots in boxes will allow for more baits (colors, ect..) and less boxes overall. Like to tailor tackle load for type of fishing that day.

Can you store these baits already rigged? Used to have several colors/ sizes rigged but old soft plastic worms did not have salt.

I am getting back into the sport after a 20 year haitus. Grandkids are expressing an interest and I need to update my knowledge base. This forum has been an eye opener about advances in the sport of bass fishing but I had not seen this covered.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Ziplock bags. I bag 3,4 or 5 baits per bag ( so I don 't have to carry around a whole bag of baits ) and into my T-box.

Nope you can 't store them pre-rigged, the salt will eat away the hook in no time.

One other thing I would add is that if you take a used one and put it back in the bag, box, whatever,to make sure it is dry.Rub it on your pants,or set it in the sun on the boat deck for a min. The moist bait will cause the other ones to get soggy. If you ever see water vapor droplets in your bag or box use a paper towell to dry it up and lightly wipe the baits. If they get a little soggy it really cuts down on the durability of the bait and it rips easier. I live in really humid conditions so this is a constant problem.

It also never hurts to save some of those silica gel packets like the one you get with shoes and such and drop them in your tackle box compartments. :)
