New Fishing Trip Idea

Yup. It's a beautiful place and the drift is awsome.  If you want big fish you might be dissapointed but 100 fish days are not uncommon. It's been years since I was there and they say the fishing has only improved.

Been down the John Day River several times.  Excellent fishing.  Here's an article I did on it:

A year later, I did it again in the early fall and caught several smallies over 4lbs - the largest was just under 6lbs.

That was my first reaction after looking at the tackle they're providing...4-6 wt. flyrods, 6# test on spinning tackle.  Either the fish aren't very big or they like to fight them down to total exhaustion before releasing them.  Most of the fly guys I know around here use 7 to 9 wt. rods and spin fishermen I know rarely go below 10# test.  Just my $.02.

Is the John Day River the same as the Umpqua?
