Gamakatsu Skip Gap Hooks

Featured Replies

Does anyone use these?  The package says they are great for skipping baits.  I was wondering how they work with the fragile ultra salty baits like senkos and beavers which typically tear up after a few skips.

John check out parasite clips for that purpose, they keep the bait locked onto the top of the hookshank and can save money since the fish don't tear them up as easy either.I've used the skipgap and I don't really care for it.Just give me plain old EWG. It didn't make a noticable difference for me in holding a senko or kut tail after they get soggy.

Get some mend-it soft bait repair. Its the best thing since the plastic worm.Pays for itself very quickly when using expensive senkos, swimbaits and any other larger plastics that come in low counts per bag.

Just throwin a few things in the air that work for me :)

Cool, thx.  I have parasite clips and parasite weights, but I don't like to weigh my beavers or senkos down at all.  I might splurge and try a pack anyway.  If they suck I'll give them to my brother.

Does the mend-it work well?

Mend-it works great like he said. It WILL NOT stick to your fingers like super glue.  I use it on all the high dollar plastics.  Dries quick too.

Not impressed with the Skipjack hooks.  Plastics still slid down the hook.  Parasite clips solve that little problem.

Mend it does work incredibly. It melts the plastic from the inside and remolds it. Apply a little extra to the outside for good measure.Takes seconds to harden and about 5-7 mins to cure completely. You have to use caution when applying it.The first time you use it it will make a small rip in the plastic 10 times larger and you will go HUH??!!! No worries though it will heal.I also like it for frog baits which come 3-5 a pack. After use you can stick a hook right through the "wounded"area even if you can still see the cosmetic damage.

What I do is take a plastic such as a typical senko, fish it,when it rips up after the first bite(or snag) take it off and put a new one on.Then go back and apply the mend-it to the first one and let it sit on the deck or bench until your ready for it.I try to do it before the bait is badly torn, then it is harder to repair, but still can be repaired nonetheless.

You can alternate between two baits all day.Of course if the action is hot and heavy you will probably want to just save the used baits in a seperate bag and go back and do them later after fishing.Who wants to take time out when the fish are hammering left and right? :)

There is a nice (but boring) video here and it available at *** for cheaper.

All I use is Skip Gap Hooks I have had a lot of success with them. I use them on senkos, 4/0 works great. The 5/0 is great for the horny toads. Baits don't slip!
