Paint durability XCalibur XR50 and XRK75

Featured Replies

I've heard others complain about the durability of the paint on the older Strike King Red Eye Shads, but I haven't heard much said about the Xcalibur lipless baits.  I bought three (2-XR50 and 1-XRK75) from TW before a tournament a couple weeks ago, and two of them had significant paint chipped off the nose of the bait on the first day of use.  I was fishing grass so I don't think it was from rocks.  The two that had the most significant paint loss were both Rayburn Red.  The chrome/blue back/orange belly had a little bit of chipped paint, but not like the others.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this with these baits?  I really like these baits and I caught A LOT of fish on them so it didn't seem to affect that (even after paint chipped).  I guess I just expected better from what I consider a premium bait.

I can tell you without reservation that the xrK50 cannot withstand impact with the head of a Motorguide Tour 109 trolling motor.  ;)

LOL

I've only used the Foxy Shad and Foxy Mama in the XR50 and XRK50 and the Foxy Mama in the XRK75. The paint on them is pretty durable considering the amount of fish I've caught on 'em. I bought like 5 of the Foxy Shad XR50's, but I'm still on my first. It's pretty beat up, but it's still catching fish! Can't go wrong. ;)

Make sure you look at them pretty well before you buy 'em though. I had one with some loose split rings or something that made me lose a double hookup with 2 three pounders!

I've also been a little upset with the paint on these.  I kinda expected it from the strike king red eye shad because of past experiences, but I thought the Excalibur would hold up a little better than they have.  However, I'll continue to buy both the redeye and xr50......they've been my best producers this year so far.

I have six Xr50's (various colors) from last year. They all saw AOLT of action, and I've had no issues with paint.
