Susquehena River

Featured Replies

Has anyone fished the susky near Harrisburg since the last winter storm?  I have a trip on Friday and was wondering if the fish were biting.

I also have a trip heres cheduled for Wensday ..me and my dad are going out with a guide.

He said hes been killing them around there lately getting the big pre-spawn females weighing anywhere from 2-5 pounds. Those are some killer smallies!

Ill let you know how I did and post an outing report

Mike, what guide are you going with?  I have a trip scheduled with Blaine Mengel from the Backwoods Angler in June.

Oh yes, they are biting !

This makes me even more anxious to get out on the river!  June 15th can't come soon enough!

Went out Friday and caught six nice sized ones.  The current is awful strong with high water.

Just a hint. When the Susky is high and muddy, its at its best. It narrows down where to catch your fish and gives you a better chance at a five or six. The best time is when the river is on the rise. On the fall is not that great. The optimum level for me is around 5'5" at Harrisburg. Its just enough where all the little islands are not washed over and if you start below each of those small islands at the bottom of the breaks and throw up river into the eddy they create.... its go time.
