I'm 16 and going to fish my first tournament Saturday and the lake is extremely clear. A slight cold front is going to come through a couple days before the tournament. Any recommendations on baits or lures to try?

Drop shot 6" roboworms, make sure you're using flouro. Jigs if they work for you. Use what you're comfortable with but if there's a cold front coming through, slowwww it down.

drop shot, shakey head 1/8 oz., finesse jig. find off shore structure in 12-18 ft of water and fish SLOW.

I'd try senkos, shakey head, creature baits with a 1/4 oz bullet weight(baby brush hogs, sweet beaver, paca craws), and depending on the wind, spinnerbaits. If you're in VA, bass are cruisin around looking for beds (or at least they are where I'm at), I would look for drop offs from rocks, or steep banks and toss that creature bait right at the bank and drag it slowly across the bottom. That's what was working for me the other day.

In clear water, try to use lighter colored lures. Green pumpkin, watermelon seed, etc.

The lake is in suffolk,va its called the lonestar lakes. There are like 12 little lakes in the one park. But the one we like the fish is very clear.  http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/waterbodies/display.asp?id=80

Try sight fishing if theyre up shallow. The front might not be as bad as you'd think. If you see bass, throw a senko or some kind of soft plastic jerkbait(senko, fluke, slug-go) If you dont see any cruisers, throw a shakey headed worm of some type. You cant go wrong with green pumpkin.

confidence in tourneys is key..sitck with baits you know how to use and fish the way you know how

also, as Ike always says never give up, keep fishing till the last minute..ive won tourneys by catching a kicker fish on the way to the weigh in

take your boat and run about 20 times as close to the bank as you can to muddy up the water. ;D i hate clear water. lol just do what you are comfortable with and have confidence in. Dont waste time with something you think will work, fish hard with what you know the majority of the time. Trust your gut on when to move and what to do.
