Piedmont of NC

Featured Replies

I live in Rockingham County, N.C. is there any members live in this area. Also know any smallies fishing besides New River, French Broad. What about Yadkin River,Mayo River, Dan River & Smith's River. Also want to know are they bank fishing or boat fishing. One thing no rapids for boats, I don't canoe or kayak anymore. So any lures suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Dennis

I come down there and fish a couple times each year.  We've got family in Browns Summit so we usually hit the local lakes and ponds.  I don't know anything about the rivers and I haven't caught any smallies down that way.

I live on the Yadkin River. I've caught smallies, but I've caught way more largemouth. That may just be because I target largemouth though...

all highland lakes have smallies. yadkin has smallies but they are way up river where the colder mtn creeks dump in. i have seen (once in an absolute blue moon) smallies in the Mitchell River (where i fly fish some before it gets cleaned out by the locals-- trout)

Uwharrie River, Mayo, and Broad River. Pop-r, small spook, 1/8 oz buzzbait, 4"smoke grubs,4"stick worms,Rebel crawfish crankbait, and Strike King bitsy flip jig with a tiny Paca chunk trailer should get you started.

Where are these rivers located?

Broad River is located south of Forrest City on the NC SC border, Mayo River flows south out of Va west of Martinsville into NC near Hanging Rock SP, and the Uwharrie flows south of Trinity, NC through the Uwharrie NF into Lake Tillery near Morrow Mtn. SP.

I am from Greensboro.  I have heard of Smallies in the Uwharrie River. I have never tried it though.  Other than that I think there are a few places up in the mountains

I fished the Uwharrie last June and caught my first two Smallmouth. You have to find the deeper holes in the river or you will only catch Sunfish.
