I am leaving on Wed. next week to do some smallie fishing on Lk Erie.  I am planning on staying at Lampe Marina Campground and fishing the lake mostly unless the weather moves us into the bay.  I have heard to try near the Cribs and Shades beach area.  Just wondering if it would be better if I fish near walnut creek or elk creek which is on the other side of the bay.  Also if anyone can give me advice on what the fish will be doing that would be great.  Last year I came in the end of April and they seemed to be on beds just wondering if you think they may still be on beds or have they moved off.  Any help would be great.

I'll be there Sunday May 16th.

My buds tell me that the jerkbait bite was on, tubes, blades, drop shot, also worked. You should be able to find fish at just about every depth now.

This time of year you don't need to venture far from the bay. From the bay to Shades Beach is plenty.

Elk is a LOOONG run, especially if the wind comes up, trust me, been there done that .

Main lake fish should not be on beds yet. There are probably some bedders in the bay.

I was there last week and the wind and waves knocked most guys off the main lake throughout the week.  When you can get on, deep jerkbaits in 15-20' work great.  We ended up fishing Presque Isle Bay most of the trip.  Largemouth were on beds everywhere.
