Drop shot for smallies in a river

Featured Replies

Going on a smallie trip this weekend.

Will a dropshot with a fluke work okay for smallies in moving water? I'd imagine it be killer, and am going to try it regardless what you guys tell me. I'd just like to have reassuarnce.

I found that zoom tiny flukes work the best instead of using a weight use a shakey head and fish a worm under your dropshot  ;)

i would think it would work great. you may have to use a heavier weight than normal depending on the current.

Use a cylinder or tear-drop weight. The rocks will eat the ball weights up.

I like to use a 5" Kalin grub for drop shot in the river, but no matter what plastic you go with make sure it's nose hooked, and straight, or you'll get it twisted by the current.
