Humminbird 798 Ci

Featured Replies

Hi I have the 798ci with side imagining and all the bells and whistles. I have had a problem with it. When Im fishing Lake St. Clair and hit a decent wave it shuts off so then I have to re start it. I had my mechanic look at the power supply cable and he said everything looks good and tight. It only happens when I hit a good size wave. Has anyone had this happen, I talked to them and they wanted to send me a new power supply or send the unit in. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks,

Jenga

I have the 788ci and sometimes it will shut off randomly. I think it has to do with the fuse panel so I am wiring it directly to the battery to see if that helps. Hopefully I'll have done this weekend.

THE problem is the sloppy connection between the power cord plug and the unit receptacle. It is a commom occurrence since they are made that way for easy removal from the mount.

1. Remove the unit from the mount and take the cable collector apart.

2. Bend the power cord tab on the metal plate up some so it will hold the plug tighter.

3. Put the cable/s and collector back together.

4. Before you put the unit back on the mount, bend the two power cord pins

slightly so they will have better contact inside the unit receptacle.

5. Put the unit back on the mount.

6. Problem solved.

I'll have to try this too just too make sure it stays on.

I've got a 788ci too and run into this problem. Man, I can't thank you enough for posting this solution. I will get on it first thing this weekend.
