Looking for a review of the Crucial spinning rods. Anyone used the 7' M/F or the 7'2 M/XF? I need an all-around bass spinning rod, and I can get these new for $90.

I don't want to get the 7' M and have it be a whimpy parabolic rod. I want something with a little bit of backbone for throwing light plastics. I'll be throwing it with braid and a CXX leader.

Thoughts?

You are more then likely going to want either the CRSX68M or CRS70MH, the 2 rods you mentioned will be alright if that is the only 2 you can get at that price. If not I would look at the 2 I mentioned.

They are great rods and you will not be disappointed with Crucial rods.

As SJ mentioned the CRSX68M is a good rod,I like that I can roll my wrist over to steer fish.It has enough power to pull two guys and canoe full of gear up to point where snagged.I believe it does have a parabolic curve but whimpy...nope.G/L in choice.

Dang $90 for a Crucial, heck of a deal, if they have any extras lying around at that price, please send me a PM.

I've never owned or even used the 7' MF, but I did have a 6'6" MF for a while and feel that it was underpowered compared to similar rods from some of the other manufacturers. If you're going to limit its use to open water, or very light (almost nonexistant) cover, it might be fine.

The lure weight range that Shimano has marked on the rod should be heeded. Anything over 3/8 oz (which is roughly a 7" worm, 3/0 ewg, and 1/8 oz wt) is going to overload the rod, and it'll feel like the tip is going to snap off.

Agh, maybe I should just save a bit more and get the 7'2 M/F Cumara. I have fished a 6'6" MH/F Crucial Casting rod, and it fished like a medium. Grr.

The Cumara and Crucial are very similar in that rod, the 7-2 MXF. I don't know that there's enough difference to bump up to the Cumara, really. I don't like the 6-8MXF at all in the Crucial, it's too soft a tip, more like a fast. The Cumara 6-8 MXF is far and away a better rod than the Crucial in that length/action, from what you're description it would be the better of the two. From your original post, the 7-2MXF would be the better choice.

That said, the 7-2 in both Crucial and Cumara are my drop shot rods, I never fish the Crucial anymore, but my wife loves it. The rod I fish for the purpose you're inquiring is the Avid AVS68MXF.

Yes. It's a good choice for an all-round finesse rod.

If your going for a rod 7' or longer then the Cumara CUS72MH would be the best choice in my opinion.

I didn't like the 7-2 MH in the Cumara at all. Too tip heavy and the tip was too slow. I fished it for about three days last year and got rid of it. I think the MXF is much more versatile.
