Picked Up An Orra Sx

Featured Replies

Hey guys! I just picked up an Abu Garcia Orra SX from my local tackle dealer and I paired it with an Abu Gracia Vengeance 6'6" rod. I spooled it with 30# Sufix 832 low-vis green since I typically fish heavy cover / stained waters. I took the rod/reel out the other day and caught a few bass in the 2-5 pound range. The reel handled very well and casts like a dream. I had no issues with it at all.

Last night, I was reading some reviews of the reel on BPS site and read where several people had issues with the reverse bearings going out on. Should I be concerned that I will inevitably happen to me? Should I start looking around for a superior roller bearing to replace the stock with?

No and no. If not broke , don't fix.

mine went out within a month, one of my least favorite reels I own. Been trying to get it warrantied.

This is what worries me, not knowing if and when it's going to happen to me. I read on another forum where a guy had replaced the bearings with better ones that he acquired from an aftermarket dealer. I would love to find out where he got them.

I have three Orra Sx's so far so good. I had that same problem with the anti reverse bearings on a couple of Silvermax reels. You think they would have corrected that. I will stick to revos from now on..

I have two orras. i used them all last year and put them up over the winter. I use one as a c-rig reel and the other had braid and was used for frog type fishing. I got my c-rig out over the weekend and my AR bearings were not working properly. I feel confident though it is just from too much grease from the factory and when it was stored it allowed the reel to collect dust and the bearings are not functioning properly due to over greasing from factory along with a little bit of firty grease. I think it will be as good as new once a good cleaning and re-lubing is done. Very good reel! I've had this same problem with higher and lower end reels.

Had the reverse bearing go out on one within the first month also. This was when they were fairly new to the market though.

I contacted Abu Garcia on this and here is what I received from the support rep: "Bill, we have been informed that some of the first ones had problem with the sleeve but this issue has been taken care of."

I don't know how long mine was sitting in the tackle shop before I bought it last week, so I asked the rep what serial number strand has been updated and fixed. I'll post the info here as soon as I get it.

Iv been eyeing these reels up to replace some of my quantiums that are junk but i keep reading bout that AR bearing and am skeptic of it. i allready own a revo sx but want to replace all my reels with abu but cant afford all revo so the orra seems a good starting point.

if it aint broke, dont fix it

I have 2 that I beat the crap out of on a frog rod and flipping. Big fish, massive hook sets, and winching them out the the thick crap. No complaints, great reels.
